Sam Smith

Sam Smith, born Samuel Frederick Smith, is an English singer and songwriter whose career bridges pop, soul and dance music. Smith first gained widespread attention in 2012 by featuring on Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch,” followed by a No. 1 UK hit in 2013 with Naughty Boy’s “La La La.” Their debut album, “In the Lonely Hour” (2014), produced chart-topping singles including “Stay With Me” and earned Smith four Grammy Awards in 2015, including best new artist, record of the year, song of the year and best pop vocal album. That same year, Smith recorded the James Bond theme “Writing’s on the Wall” for “Spectre.”

In 2022, Smith collaborated with Kim Petras on the global hit “Unholy,” the lead single from their fourth studio album, “Gloria.” The song reached No. 1 in the United States, the United Kingdom and multiple international markets, making Smith the first openly nonbinary artist and Petras the first openly transgender artist to top the Billboard Hot 100. The duo won the Grammy Award for best pop duo/group performance in 2023. “Gloria,” released in January 2023, received generally favorable reviews and was supported by the global “Gloria World Tour.”

Smith has continued to collaborate across genres, including a second partnership with Calvin Harris on the 2023 dance single “Desire,” and expanded into orchestral performance with an appearance at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in 2024. Known for their emotive vocals and genre-fluid artistry, Smith remains one of the most influential pop voices of their generation.
