Tony Shalhoub

Tony Shalhoub is a Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe-winning actor whose career spans stage, television, and film, earning him recognition as one of the most versatile performers of his generation. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Oct. 9, 1953, Shalhoub has built a reputation for bringing depth, humor, and humanity to every role he undertakes.

On Broadway, Shalhoub won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Tewfiq Zakaria in David Cromer’s "The Band’s Visit." He also received Tony nominations for his performances in Conversations with "My Father," "Golden Boy," and "Act One," and appeared Off-Broadway opposite Diane Lane in Lincoln Center’s "The Mystery of Love & Sex." His stage work demonstrates a remarkable range, moving effortlessly between drama and comedy, classical material and contemporary work.

Shalhoub is perhaps best known to television audiences as the obsessive-compulsive detective Adrian Monk in the series "Monk,: a role that earned him three Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. More recently, he has been celebrated for his performance as Abe Weissman on Prime Video’s "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and two SAG awards. He reprised Monk in "Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie" in 2023 and continues to lend his voice to animated characters, including Luigi in the "Cars" franchise.

Shalhoub’s film career is equally distinguished. He has appeared in Stanley Tucci’s "Final Portrait," "Pain & Gain," "Men in Black I" and its sequel, "Galaxy Quest," "The Siege," "The Man Who Wasn’t There," and "Big Night." In 2025, Shalhoub hosts the CNN docuseries "Tony Shalhoub: Breaking Bread," which follows the actor on a culinary and cultural journey exploring the role of bread in communities around the world.
