Matthew Broderick

Matthew Broderick is an American actor whose career spans film, television, and Broadway, with work in drama, comedy, and musical theater. Broderick made his professional debut at age 17 in an HB Studio workshop production. His early career gained momentum following a New York Times review of his off-Broadway performance in Harvey Fierstein's "Torch Song Trilogy," which led to opportunities on Broadway. This breakthrough resulted in a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role as Eugene Morris Jerome in Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs," making him the youngest recipient of the award. He reprised the role of Eugene in the Broadway production and film adaptation of "Biloxi Blues."

Broderick transitioned to film with roles in the Cold War thriller "WarGames" and the title character in John Hughes' "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." He portrayed Colonel Robert Gould Shaw in "Glory" and voiced adult Simba in Disney's animated film "The Lion King."

On stage, Broderick starred with Nathan Lane in Mel Brooks' "The Producers" on Broadway, playing Leo Bloom in a production that won 12 Tony Awards. He and Lane reprised their roles in the film adaptation. Broderick earned a second Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and starred in "Nice Work If You Can Get It," which received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. He made his West End debut in "The Starry Messenger" and returned to Broadway in a revival of Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite."

Broderick has appeared in the comedy film "No Hard Feelings" and played himself in the Hulu series "Only Murders in the Building," earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. His television credits include appearances in "Modern Family," "30 Rock," and the TNT production of David Mamet's "A Life in the Theater," for which he received an Emmy nomination. Broderick has been inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the American Theater Hall of Fame, reflecting a career with significant contributions to acting across stage and screen.
