Sundar Pichai

Sundar Pichai is a technology executive serving as the CEO of Google and its parent company, Alphabet Inc. An Indian-American business leader, Pichai has held the role of CEO at Google and Alphabet Inc. for several years. He holds an MS from Stanford University School of Engineering in materials science and engineering and an MBA from the Wharton School, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar. Before joining Google, Pichai worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company.

Pichai joined Google in 2004, leading product management and innovation for a suite of Google’s client software products, including "Google Chrome" and ChromeOS, and played a significant role in the development of Google Drive. He also oversaw the growth of applications such as Gmail and Google Maps. Pichai was instrumental in championing the development of the "Chrome" browser, which quickly became a dominant force in the global browser market. He later took on oversight of Android, guiding its expansion to billions of active devices and establishing it as the world’s largest mobile operating system. Pichai’s expanding responsibilities led to his appointment as CEO when Google restructured and Alphabet Inc. was created.

Under Pichai’s leadership, Google has placed artificial intelligence at the core of its strategy. He articulated a vision for Google as an "AI-first" company, a strategic shift that continues to shape the company’s direction. Pichai led the rebranding of Google’s AI chatbot from "Bard" to "Gemini," integrating advanced AI capabilities across products such as Search, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Android. Alphabet has committed significant investments to AI infrastructure, including hyperscale data centers, custom AI chips, and full-stack product integration. These initiatives have contributed to Alphabet achieving record-breaking revenue milestones in the technology sector.

Pichai is recognized as a prominent voice on the global stage regarding the responsible development and regulation of artificial intelligence. He has participated in international discussions on AI safety and ethics, advocating for equitable access to AI technologies and emphasizing the prevention of an AI divide. Pichai has been included in Time’s annual list of the 100 most influential people and the Time 100 AI list. He has received honors such as the Asia Game Changer Award from Asia Society and the Padma Bhushan in Trade and Industry from the Government of India.
