MacKenzie Scott Biography
MacKenzie Scott is a philanthropist, author, and the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, to whom she was married for 25 years. As part of their 2019 divorce, she received a 4% stake in the online retailer.
Following Scott's divorce from Bezos, Scott received a $35 billion divorce settlement, making her the third richest woman in the world. In May 2019, MacKenzie Bezos signed on the Giving Pledge initiative to donate at least half of her wealth to charitable causes and has yielded over $16,500,000,000 to 1,900+ non-profit teams. Scott shares the details of her donations on a website called Yield Giving. Notably, Scott utilizes a "no strings attached" style of giving, wherein the nonprofits that receive her donations have full control over how to best deploy the new funds.
Scott, who has published two novels, was a student of author Toni Morrison at Princeton and worked as a research assistant for her.
