Keke Palmer is an actress, activist, music artist, author and humanitarian. Palmer earned her first taste of national exposure with a small role in Barbershop 2: Back in Business. Her breakout role was in 2006 in the film Akeelah and The Bee and she then starred as the title character in the hit cable series “True Jackson, VP,” for which she received four NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Performance in a Youth/ Children’s Program.
In 2004, Palmer starred opposite William H. Macy in the made-for-TV movie The Wool Cap, a performance that earned her the distinction of being youngest nominee for the Screen Actors Guild's best leading actress honor. In 2007, she co-starred with Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes in The Cleaner and she starred in Jump In! alongside Corbin Bleu. In 2012, Palmer starred alongside Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah in the film Joyful Noise. She produced and starred in Rags, a Nickelodeon musical film, as well as voiced characters in Ice Age: Continental Drift and Winx Club. Palmer also starred in FOX’s 2016 Emmy winning, GREASE: LIVE as “Marty.”
She also made Broadway history in 2014 as the first African-American and youngest actress to star in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s iconic 1957 musical, Cinderella. Palmer invited underprivileged girls from the Bronx and Queens NY to the Broadway musical. This opportunity for the girls to watch their first Broadway musical with Palmer in the leading role as the iconic Cinderella, was such an awesome experience that launched into the Saving Our Cinderellas program. Co-founded by Palmer, the program reaches out to girls from multicultural backgrounds in an effort to encourage them within the arts to help deter bullying in school.
In 2017, her memoir was released, titled "I Don't Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice." In June 2016, Palmer released a previously unreleased album she recorded when she was 16, now titled "Waited to Exhale." The album was recorded during a dark period in her life when music executives didn't have much faith in her. On November 4, 2016, Palmer released her second extended play titled "Lauren" through Island Records. A 17-minute short film of the same name was released exclusively on Billboard's website. On April 21, 2017, Palmer released a new single "Wind Up" featuring Quavo of the group Migos.
In 2018 she was in an indie film called Pimp with rap legend DMX, it loosely based off the life of a real female hustler in the Bronx , NY., for the role Palmer had to gain 20 pounds of body muscle. She was also a series regular in the 2015 Fox horror comedy "Scream Queens" and the 2019 VH1 slasher "Scream." Also in 2019, Palmer became co-host of daytime talk show "Strahan, Sara and Keke" on ABC alongside Sara Haines and Michael Strahan, for which she received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host in 2020.
