Gil Birmingham

Gil Birmingham is an actor of Comanche ancestry whose career spans film, television, and theater. After earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California, Birmingham began his professional life as a petrochemical engineer. His transition to acting began when a talent scout discovered him at a Los Angeles gym, leading to his first on-screen appearance in Diana Ross's music video for "Muscles." Birmingham later studied acting with coaches Larry Moss and Charles Conrad, building a diverse portfolio across more than 40 productions.

Birmingham's first major film role was in the drama "The Doe Boy," which received the Sundance International Filmmaker's Award. He gained further recognition with appearances in the Steven Spielberg miniseries "Into the West" and a recurring role in the medical drama "Body & Soul," for which he received a First Americans in the Arts Award for Outstanding Performance in a Recurring Role. Birmingham also collaborated with Sheridan in the Oscar-nominated "Hell or High Water," portraying a Texas Ranger. These roles have established Birmingham as a versatile actor and a prominent figure in Native American representation in Hollywood.

Birmingham is known for his role as Tribal Chairman Thomas Rainwater on the Paramount Network series "Yellowstone." As the leader of the fictional Broken Rock Reservation, Rainwater is portrayed as a complex and intelligent character, contributing to more nuanced depictions of Indigenous people on television. Birmingham has reprised this role in the CBS spin-off series "Marshals."

Throughout his career, Birmingham has received several awards, including the Red Nation Film Award of Excellence for Best Supporting Actor and the American Indian LA Film and Television Award for Outstanding Supporting Role.
