Rev. Jamal Harrison Bryant

Rev. Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant is a minister, author, and social justice activist known for his leadership in American Christianity. Bryant serves as the senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Georgia, becoming the church's fourth pastor and succeeding Bishop Kenneth Samuel, Bishop Eddie L. Long, and Bishop Stephen Davis. A third-generation minister, Bryant previously founded Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland, which became recognized as one of the fastest-growing African Methodist Episcopal churches in the denomination's history. Under his leadership, the church expanded from 43 members to more than 10,000 within its first seven years, attracting young adults and African American men.

Bryant's educational journey began after earning a GED and becoming the first person admitted to Morehouse College with that credential. He earned a degree in political science and international studies, followed by a Master of Divinity from Duke University, additional studies at Oxford University, and a doctorate from the Graduate Theological Foundation. Before his full-time ministry, Bryant served as the national youth and college director of the NAACP, leading approximately 70,000 young people in non-violent campaigns for civil rights.

Bryant integrates biblical teaching, business strategy, and political advocacy to engage faith communities in social justice and civic participation. At Empowerment Temple, he established initiatives such as an elementary school, an adult learning facility, credit education programs, and entrepreneurship training. The church also led voter registration efforts in Baltimore and partnered with organizations to support underserved populations. Bryant has organized protests, led voter registration drives, and participated in national movements addressing systemic issues affecting Black communities.

At New Birth, Bryant emphasizes worship experiences that blend contemporary and traditional elements, aiming to create a spiritually engaging and culturally relevant environment. His "Got Power" television broadcast reaches audiences across the United States, the Caribbean, and London. Bryant hosts the podcast "The Jamal Bryant Podcast: Let's Be Clear" and has authored books including "World War Me: How to Win the War I Lost" and "The Big Idea: When God Impregnates Your Imagination." He has appeared on television programs including C-SPAN and has been featured in media outlets such as USA Today. Bryant has received recognition for his community contributions, including the NAACP Image Award's Chairman's Award. His work continues to influence faith-based activism, leadership, and community engagement at the intersection of religion and social justice.
