Laurie Metcalf

Laurie Metcalf is recognized for her work in American theater, television, and film. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Metcalf has received multiple honors, including four Primetime Emmy Awards and three Tony Awards, along with nominations for an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards. She began her career with Steppenwolf Theatre Company as a charter ensemble member. Metcalf appeared in an Off-Broadway Steppenwolf production of "Balm in Gilead" at Circle Repertory, earning the Obie Award for Best Actress and a Theatre World Award for best debut in a Broadway or Off-Broadway performance.

Metcalf's transition to television brought her national recognition. On "Roseanne," she portrayed Jackie Harris, the younger sister of the titular character, and received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy for three consecutive years. Metcalf reprised the role in "The Conners."
