At an early age, McCambridge was not your typical young and impressionable child. He became very interested in the workings of the mind, specifically; he targeted how those around him communicated with each other and towards him.
He not only listened to what people were saying but observed their gestures, posture, eye movement, and tone of voice. McCambridge realized he was able to tap into people's minds, and figure out what people were thinking. McCambridge listened, watched, observed and strengthened his intuition as he grew. People in McCambridge's life became so intrigued with his unusual but fascinating gift that at the age of 10 he started giving fun demonstrations showcasing some of his abilities.
At first, he performed minute long demonstrations for friends at parties. To add to his total performance time, he also studied comedy and magic and mixed those into his performing repertoire. Between the three crafts, he was able to give enough of a full length performance to be able to charge for his entertainment. Over the years, the mentalism portion of the performance kept growing, and the magic portion was slowly phased out.
While perfecting his stage show, McCambridge worked at a psychiatric hospital where he was able to question and discuss the functioning of the human brain with staff doctors. This gave him partial understanding of his manipulative gift and aided in fine-tuning his intuitive abilities. Eventually he left his position at the hospital to concentrate full-time on his performing talents.
McCambridge attributes some of his intuitive ability to his father who was a NYC Detective. As a detective, he was always getting into the minds of suspects and using skillful verbal manipulation to obtain information pertaining to his cases. The young McCambridge would watch his fathers techniques and apply them to his performing routines. The people Gerry performs for, their level of cooperation and willingness, plays a significant role in McCambridge's success.
He has also studied Memory Techniques, reading Body Language cues, simple Psychology, stage Hypnosis, Linguistics, Statistics, Law of Averages, Non-Verbal Communication, NLP, ESP, Acting, Theater, and Stand Up Comedy.
McCambridge uses his mental abilities purely for entertainment purposes. Being a father, Gerry is very conscious of using his talent in positive and entertaining ways. His purpose is to get people excited and involved without using any fancy props, violent or sexually suggestive images?just positive, intelligent, and thought-provoking material.
In 2003, Gerry wrote, executive produced and starred in his own one hour prime time network television special which continues to air internationally. In 2004 he performed his one man show off-Broadway to sell out crowds. McCambridge does the unthinkable?he GETS PEOPLE THINKING!
