Wendy Kaufman Biography

As the Snapple Beverage Corp.’s zaftig “Hello From Snapple” ambassadress (a.k.a. ‘The Snapple Lady’), and with her unique brand of hubris and charm, Wendy has become a nationally famous personality virtually overnight by turning the traditional concept of product spokesperson on its ear. She has spoken from her heart in 37 unscripted television commercials and 36 radio spots for Snapple, which have ultimately turned her into a household name and helped to launch the Snapple brand into beverage sales history.

Wendy began is Snapple’s order department, however, a growing stream of company fan mail prompted her to one day stand on her chair and declare herself the company’s Director of Public Relations because she could “Publicly Relate.” Since the one and only fan letter she wrote to Barry Williams (Greg Brady) as a prepubescent went unanswered, she vowed to answer every letter that came in to the Snapple corporate offices. At her peak, Wendy was receiving upwards of 3,000 letters each week, every single one of them answered individually. Her feeling was that if people cared enough to take time out of their day to write to the company, then the company owed it to the consumers to respond.

Affectionately known as ‘The Snapple Lady,’ Wendy soon became one of the most recognizable spokespeople in the world when she was made part of Snapple’s “True to Life” advertising campaign. Her energy, warmth and humor won her multitudes of fans and friends across the country, spanning all ages, genders and races.

Despite her rise to celebrity, Wendy has always remained true to the Snapple brand. Some of her more memorable appearances based upon her fan letters included being an official date (at the tender age of 35) at a New Jersey senior prom, dancing with the L.A. Classical Ballet and taking a Kiwi Strawberry Jacuzzi bath with two radio jocks.

Wendy, ‘The Snapple Lady’ has also been a regular on the media circuit and with her good nature and spunky personality she has landed stints on Oprah, Regis and Kathie Lee, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Uncensored Bloopers, The Today Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, and business shows including Your World With Neil Cavuto on Fox News Channel.

In 1994, Quaker Oats purchased Snapple and abruptly fired Wendy; a move that outraged her fans and greatly diminished the brand’s profile. Wendy’s recognition factor never waned and when The Triarc Beverage Company bought Snapple in 1997, the new regime took notice of the overwhelming fan devotion and happily re-hired Wendy to resume her role as “Goodwill Ambassadress.” As a testimonial to Wendy’s popularity, Snapple even gave Wendy her very own flavor “Wendy’s Tropical Inspiration” where a percentage of the proceeds were donated to NYU Medical Center for cancer research and many other charitable pursuits. In 2000, Snapple was once again sold; this time to Cadbury Schweppes.

2005 is proving to be the biggest year yet for Wendy. She is excited about reuniting with her fans as well as connecting with a new fan base as she prepares to star in Snapple’s new “Returns the Favor” advertising campaign. Her famous Long Island accent will be featured in three clever and humorous television advertisements scheduled to break on January 17, 2005. In the spots, Wendy will be thanking ‘real’ people for saying something nice about Snapple and returning the favor by having others say something nice about the Snapple fans. Wendy’s fans will also be able to see her as one of the featured celebrities on VH1’s new reality show, Celebrity Fit Club, which premieres on January 9, 2005.

When she is not busy at work, she travels, takes criminal justice classes at John Jay College in NYC, enjoys theatre, restaurants and movies. She has appeared in the film Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase, the now defunct television series “The Beat” and can be seen in all 10 episodes of the hit VHI series I Love the 90’s. It is also with great pride that Wendy continually rates as “The Least Foolish” person in America for a National poll, which comes out annually to mark April Fool’s Day.

Wendy grew up in Long Island, NY and attended Syracuse University where she graduated with dual degrees in Film (from the very prestigious Newhouse School of Communications) and Sociology (from the College of Arts and Sciences).
