Patrick was born into a skiing family on Snoqualmie Pass, Washington.

The entire family was involved in the world of skiing.

His grandfather owned and operated the local ski shop while his father was the General Manager of the Hyak Ski Area, now Summit East of the Summit at Snoqualmie Ski Resort and his mother was in charge of sales.

At 11 months of age Patrick was outfitted in ski gear by Sturtevants Sports of Bellevue and on November 30, 1988 Patrick was placed on skis and made his first turns.

At the age of 7 Patrick started his competitive career in alpine ski racing and the next year brought him to the top of many podiums winning Slalom, GS, and Downhill events.

Patrick continued to compete in alpine ski racing through 1999 when he was introduced to the world of mogul skiing. In 1999 in one single day he won the regional Giant Slalom competition, the Downhill competition and the Mogul competition.

By the start of 2000 ski season Patrick had decided to concentrate on Mogul Skiing. In December of 2004, at the age of 16, Patrick earned a spot on the US Ski Team.

In 2005 Patrick suffered an injury and sat out most of the 2005 and 2006 ski season. His first major event on returning to competition was in Russia at the 2006 Junior World Championships where he placed 3rd in the world in Dual Moguls.

During the 2006-2007 ski season Patrick competed on the North American Freestyle Circuit (NORAM) where he won the Dual Mogul Championships reclaiming his spot on the United States Ski Team. The 2007-2008 ski season was planned as a building year for Patrick and the Rocket was launched.

Patrick did not follow the plan. Instead he rocketed onto the world mogul scene winning the first day of the US Selections event and then winning the first two NORAM mogul competitions.

After those early season accomplishments Patrick competed in his first two World Cup events at Lake Placid where he stepped onto the World Cup podium each day.
