Mike Leach Biography
Mike Leach is one of the most successful coaches in college football and one of the most innovative offensive minds in the history of the sport. Prior to coming to Mississippi State, he had success as a head coach both at Texas Tech and Washington State. With 84 victories, Leach is the winningest coach in Red Raiders history. He led the program to five top 25 finishes from 2000-2009. Tech also won the Big 12 South Division in 2008, the same year Leach was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. Leach went on to coach at WSU from 2012-2019, winning 55 games. His tenure was highlighted by an 11-2 campaign in 2018 which saw the Cougars win the Pac-12 South Division and finish ranked tenth in the country.
Leach is the main architect of the Air Raid offense. He first gained acclaim for his offensive acumen as a coordinator for Hal Mumme in the early 1990s at Valdosta State and Kentucky. Leach also served one year as the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 1999 before taking the Texas Tech job.
