Julie O'Keeffe Henszey speaks to life adventure and fulfillment in a way no one else can. Her sense of adventure has taken her to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro and to a decision to complete 100 triathlons in the course of twenty years. Her ability to tolerate uncertainty has also given her leeway to experience both success and failure in a host of life's professional and personal areas, where she sometimes dips her toe and sometimes plunges in.
Big Goals, Small Steps
Julie has an ability to bring individuals face to face with their sincere wishes in life and their biggest obstacles. She believes that we all have the ability and time to take action on our most cherished goals, needs, and wishes - no matter where we're starting from. She shares, "We have the power to make dramatic improvements in each area of our lives. Once we see that ability within ourselves, we can transform ourselves through big goals and small steps each day."
Choices and Sacrifices
As part of her own work to make the most of life, she has made choices and significant sacrifices that led her to live in Norway, Iceland, and Australia, mop floors after having a Fulbright Scholarship, marry, divorce, raise two children, change careers twice, leave a secure job to start a business, buy and sell houses, and purchase investment property. It wasn't always pretty. Sometimes it was all about finding the silver lining. It was always about growth and resilience.
Learning Moments
Julie's passion for empowering others stems from this experience. Her stories create learning moments and she presents powerful strategies and tools that can launch individuals further down their desired path. Her book Ten Critical Strategies for Finding Fulfillment in a Hectic World includes many of these tools.
Behind Every Successful Strategy is a Great Research Finding
Outside of her story-telling, she realizes that quack theory and pop psychology unfortunately dominate the self-help industry. She promises to only share strategies and concepts that the scientific community has derived from mainstream scientific findings. Her story-telling simply illustrates the scientific facts.
Triathlete Mentoring
To help women from all walks of life achieve their fitness goals, Danskin hired Julie in 2009 to coordinate their triathlon mentor program. Leading up to the Chicago-area triathlon, 300 women gained skills, knowledge, and confidence to complete their first triathlon. Julie was at the finish line to congratulate each woman.
Off the Clock
Julie spends her free time doing all that parenting stuff, training for triathlons, and collecting camping gear. Her two teenage children pleasantly distract her and ignore her suggestions for personal development.
