Alfonso Cobo is the cofounder and CEO of the storytelling app Unfold, which provides collections of collage-like templates designed to make Instagram stories more beautiful and distinctive. The app, which launched in 2018, has been used by celebrities like Kim Kardashian West, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus. The bootstrapped startup currently has 16 million users, is #1 in the App Store in seven countries, and is on track to bring in $8.2 million in revenue in 2019, in part because of the startup’s monthly brand partnerships with companies like Equinox, Tommy Hilfiger, and Under Armour. Cobo plans to continue doing these partnerships, where Unfold designs exclusive collections for companies eager to tap into the Instagram Stories marketplace, once a month, but the main focus will remain the consumer app. In spring 2019, Cobo launched a subscription service called Unfold Plus, which provides exclusive story template collections, stickers, and features like a camera inside the app. In the future, Cobo plans to expand Unfold's offerings beyond Instagram to other storytelling formats.
