Adam Fogelson Biography

Adam Fogelson has been Universal Pictures Chairman since October of 2009. He oversees worldwide operations for the motion picture group, including its global theatrical, home entertainment, partnerships & licensing, finance, human resources and communications divisions. In 2012, under Fogelson’s leadership, Universal celebrated its highest grossing year at the worldwide box office in the company’s 100 year history. During his tenure as Chairman, Universal has released several hit films including Despicable Me, Bridesmaids, Contraband, Safe House, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, Snow White and the Huntsman, Ted, The Bourne Legacy, Pitch Perfect and Les Misérables.

Fogelson has been with Universal since 1998, beginning as Vice President of Creative Advertising and rising to President of Marketing and Distribution in 2007. While Fogelson was head of marketing and distribution, Universal had two of its most profitable years in the studio’s history.

During his time in Universal’s marketing operations, Fogelson worked on several box office successes such as The Incredible Hulk, The Break-Up, Mamma Mia!, American Gangster, Knocked Up, Bruce Almighty, Seabiscuit, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, 8 Mile, Erin Brockovich, Notting Hill, Bring It On and About a Boy, in addition to all films in the Meet the Parents, Bourne, American Pie and The Fast and the Furious franchises.

He also managed the marketing campaign for Universal’s Tony Award-winning smash-hit musicalWicked, which continues to sell out on Broadway and has launched hugely successful engagements across the world.

His work on 2008’s diverse and highly successful film slate earned him recognition fromAdvertising Age as 2009’s Entertainment Marketer of the Year.

Prior to Universal, Fogelson was Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, for Trimark Pictures. He also previously served as Vice President of the AFA Company, a consulting firm focusing on production marketing and distribution, where his clients included Carolco Pictures and Nelson Entertainment.

Fogelson graduated from Stanford University in 1989, earning a BA in communications. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two daughters.
