Amy Wilson Biography

Amy Wilson is the mother of three young children whom she raises with her husband in New York City. Once in a while, she is actually pretty good at it.

Wilson began her career as an actress, appearing on Broadway and in several television sitcoms and dramas. Along the way, she began writing her own material, performing sketch comedy and creating four one-woman shows, including A Cookie Full of Arsenic, which was featured at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen to rave reviews and Mother Load, which mixes motherhood, comedy, and true confession. Based on Amy's own experience as the mother of three children under five, it explored everything from prenatal yoga to preschool application and toured across the country.

Her latest project is the bestselling book When Did I Get Like This?, the hilarious story of one mother's struggle to shrug off the ridiculous standards of modern parenting, and remember how to enjoy her children.

Wilson is a contributing editor to Parenting magazine and blogs regularly at motherloadtheblog.com. Her writing about motherhood has also appeared in babytalk magazine, and on websites like Babble and CNN.com.

  • When Did I Get Like This?

Amy Wilson puts it, “What kind of mother feeds her kids dinosaur chicken nuggets? Three times a week? What kind of mother lets handwashing after using the toilet slide, as long as it was just Number One? And then I wonder: when did I get like this? Why do I doubt my parenting abilities day after day? Why does motherhood, a quotidian job as old as Eve, have me teetering daily on the edge of insanity?” Wilson, author of When Did I Get Like This?, shares experience any mother can relate to. From organic baby food and competitive birthday parties to prenatal yoga and applying to Montessori schools, her universal story is an expose of the fruitless and ever-challenging quest to be the “perfect” mom. Relatable and honest, Wilson captures the small moments of motherhood in a way that is both funny and thought-provoking.
