REQUEST BOOKING INFORMATION

 Quddus Biography

Quddus is best known from his time hosting MTVs Total Request Live and ABCs Duets so it may come as a surprise that Quddus actually envisioned other plans for his life while growing up in Canada. When I was a kid, I wanted to play basketball in the NBA or be a teacher. Then I started deejaying, explains Quddus. My first mixtape was just for fun but when it got around and I heard the feedback I realized it wasnt just a hobby. As a University of Ottawa student, Quddus passion and ear for music earned him a spot as co-host and programmer of a campus radio show called The Breakdown. Its ironic that I went on to host TRL cause The Breakdown was so hip hop. All we played was music by artists like Nas.

Quddus path definitely hasnt been conventional. Just as I was settling into campus life, I got a call recruiting me for modeling gigs. A few months later, Elite model management signed him and Quddus appeared in national campaigns with Levis, Coca-Cola, and Honda. Being objectified had its advantages, says Quddus, smiling.

A big break for Quddus came with Canadas MuchMusic VJ Search in 2000. I wasnt even sure about entering but my friends were pretty convincing. After beating out thousands of competitors, Quddus landed a spot as a semi-finalist. He won over viewers and was singled out by a producer at TVOntario who was in the process of developing a new youth culture show called Vox. Quddus joined the Vox team as a co-host and a writer. It was a great gig, we did everything from skits to tackling teen drug abuse. It was a groundbreaking show that went on to win a Gemini Award (Canadas version of the Emmy).

Talent executives at MTV loved his work on Vox, and after just one meeting they hired him. To say that hosting TRL was fun would be a massive understatement, Quddus says, laughing. Every other day I was interviewing people like Will Smith, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z. It turned out to be a perfect fit and Quddus popularity led to a Teen Choice Awards nomination for Favorite TV Personality in 2003. TV Guide featured him on the cover of the magazine as one of TVs Hottest New Stars and Teen People named him one of the 50 Sexiest Men Ever. When Usher and Britney Spears each made a point of requesting me to host their Showtime concert specials it really started to sink in that I was actually a part of pop culture.

Since leaving MTV in 2006, Quddus has hosted ABCs Duets, Nickelodeons Dance On Sunset and special corresponding for NBCs Access Hollywood. In 2008, the New York Times called him the Ryan Seacrest of the Hip-Hop generation, while The Associated Press declared him the coolest guy on television.

In the music world, Quddus also made an impact by discovering and helping develop R&B artist Mateo which led to the young singer signing to Interscope Records in 2012. Hes even directed a music video for Mateo.

Quddus has also taken on the internet in a major way by creating his own pop culture web series, The Q Side. After being in basically every realm of entertainment it was time for me to create something that gives the audience a fresh and authentic look at what its really all about. In June of 2012, Variety announced Quddus partnership with Emmy winning producer Ben Silvermans company Electus to make The Q Side one of the lead shows on its premium Youtube channel LOUD.

Considering his family history, it comes as no surprise that this multi-talented artist is also a passionate philanthropist. My grandmother became a hero working for the Resistance during World War II, and my mother met my father while she was in Haiti initiating a rural school project. Quddus hosts CBS Arthur Ashe Kids Day, serves on the board for The Night of Generosity and helps facilitates leadership workshops for others looking to make a difference. Its only right to use any influence from being in showbiz for something good.

Quddus' talent hasn't been the only reason for his success. TV Guide named him one of the 'Hottest New Stars' in 2005, USA Today included him among their 26 "Sizzling young hunks worth watching in 2004," and Teen People called him one of the "50 Sexiest Men Ever."

Ebony also recently tapped his understanding of pop culture to explain Kanye West's influence but even though Quddus has the kind of notoriety that led to him to cameos on major network shows such as CBS's CSI: Miami (2003) he's more than simply a celebrity, Quddus is a true role model. He's mediated forums for AIDS awareness, spoken at summits to promote literacy, contributed to fundraising events, and recently helped Hurricane Katrina victims by building houses with Habitat for Humanity. Dr. Cornel West, professor at Princeton University and author of the highly acclaimed Race Matters, adds, "Quddus is a significant role model in the African American community. In a pop culture climate where rappers like 50 Cent perpetuate negativity and are the most prominent example of a black man, it is of the utmost importance that someone like Quddus be able to offset the stereotypical image. Quddus is at the forefront of the progress black people are making." He's currently making progress as an actor and an A&R.
