Blaine Lee is vice president of Covey Leadership Center, one of the world’s premier leadership development authorities. Founded by Stephen R. Covey, Covey Leadership Center’s client portfolio includes more than half of the Fortune 500 companies, as well as thousands of small and mid-size companies, hospitals, and educational, government, and nonprofit organizations worldwide.
Dr. Lee grew up in Southern California as the oldest boy in a large family. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees were earned as he worked his way through Brigham Young University. A commission with the Air Force followed, and as a young lieutenant he completed a Ph.D. in instructional psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He then taught psychology, behavioral science, management, and leadership at Texas Lutheran College, Utah Valley State College, Brigham Young University, and the United States Air Force Academy.
As principal for a private residential high school for delinquent teenagers, Dr. Lee learned how to help others grow while working with tough emotional and behavioral problems. As a scoutmaster and choral director, he learned the subtle challenges and joys of volunteer leadership. From his own family, he learned how hard it is to practice what you teach. And as director of instructional systems development for the entire Air Force as a young Captain, he learned how to manage training and development systems to increase productivity while saving millions in taxpayer dollars.
Dr. Lee has been a contributing author to books by Stephen R. Covey and Norman Vincent Peale, and has written college texts on teaching and organizational behavior. His teaching takes him over a third of a million miles annually as he shares his warm, caring approach to help others succeed. His ability to deal perceptively with difficult organizational and people problems has made him a unique advisor to senior executive in many kinds of organizations. A trainer’s trainer, he is called a “Life-Coach” by leaders who claim he helps them do with their lives what athletic coaches can do with their bodies.
His performance background on the stage in musicals and plays, as well as his experience in creating and delivering a broad spectrum of business seminars, personal development workshops, team-building retreats, and large-scale organizational development programs helps him personalize and energize each presentation. Dr. Lee alternates his professional work with hour-long conference keynote addresses for large groups and five-day, custom, off-site leadership development retreats.
Dr. Lee has created and delivered custom leadership development programs for many world-class organizations, including: Proctor and Gamble, U.S. West, Intel, IBM, General Motors and Xerox. He has been twice recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America, and is listed in International Leaders in Achievement and Who’s Who in the West. Dr. Lee directs the monthly Covey Leadership Week and is preparing his next book, The Power Principle.
