Sheila Weller, journalist and New York Times best-selling author, has forged her career with her scintillating true life tales drawn directly from the news. Her most recent book, Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon – And the Journey of a Generation, presents an insightful and detailed portrayal of music's three most trailblazing and beloved singer-songwriters. It also charts the course of the generation of middle-class women born in the early-mid-1940s who were little girls in the stultifying 1950s, came of age in the thrilling and turbulent late 1960s, and went on to create second-wave feminism.
The author of seven books – three of which are New York Times Bestsellers – she has covered domestic abuse, upscale marriages, wife killing, and secret rapes in storybook communities, as well as her own family's halcyon life and the tragic demise of the premiere Hollywood nightclub they owned.
As a Senior Contributing Editor at Glamour, a writer for Vanity Fair, and a former contributing editor to New York Magazine, Weller is respected for her comprehensive, evocative investigative writing about all aspects of women's lives and issues. In 2005, she placed third (behind writers for US News and World Report and National Journal) in the magazine feature category of the National Headliners Award for her body of Glamour investigative articles.
Weller's provocative book, Raging Heart: The Intimate Story of the Tragic Marriage of O.J. and Nicole Brown Simpson, was top of the national news in 1995, and was a New York Times Bestseller. Based on exclusive interviews with almost all of the couple's best friends and Brown Simpson's family (when they were talking to no one else), the book broke news on the complex interpersonal events that likely led to the murders and broke a major prosecution witness in the case.
Weller has written major pieces for Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, Ms., Self, The New York Times Book Review, and numerous other publications. Her exposes of sexist judges and corrupt custody experts and decisions have directly led to the removal of several judges around the country and have influenced and helped to reform custody policy.
A member of the board of directors of Sanctuary for Families, New York State's largest domestic violence agency, she also sat on the board of directors of Veritas, a New York-based substance abuse agency, featuring a Young Mothers' Program that serves mothers of young children who are getting off drugs.
