Sandy Phillips is the mother of Jessica Redfield Ghawi, who was slaughtered in the 2012 Aurora Theater Massacre. Since the tragic loss of her daughter, Phillips has spent her time advocating for gun control.
She is the founder of Survivors Empowered, an organization whose mission is to, "empower survivors of violence to use their stories to create a reduction in violence." In 2019, Phillips release the novel she co-authored with Tom Diaz entitled, "Tragedy in Aurora: The Culture of Mass Shootings in America." Sandy Phillips continues to speak out to promote change and has been featured in a number of publications.
