Michael Costello

Michael Costello from "Project Runway All Stars" is one of the designers competing in the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. He originally competed on Season 8 of "Project Runway," coming in 4th place. He was followed by accusations and controversy throughout the season and is most known for no formal training and his signature draping style.

Michael ("Project Runway 8") earns his living as a fashion designer. He currently lives in Palm Springs, California, but is originally from Los Angeles, California.

Michael Costello says he picked out the fabric for the first garment that he ever designed, and a seamstress named Esperonza whipped it up for him in one day. He has been been designing and sketching ever since he was 4 years old. He has never had any formal training. He learned how to sew by hand from his mother and then on his industrial machine. He won the 2009 Project ASID Award, with Dorothy Willets, for a dress made from upholstery and wallpaper. When asked about past jobs, he says he has always been in fashion, although he has worked in a few restaurant kitchens too.

When he's designing, he likes listening to Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Melanie Fiona. Lauryn Hill, and Joss Stone. He says a really amazing, slimming jacket in black is a fashion must.

His favorite designers are Elie Saab, Tom Ford, Valentino, Donatella Versace, and Basil Soda.
