Josie Gillan Biography
Josie Gillan is a seasoned engineering leader, and has led engineering teams at Salesforce.com, Atlassian, and most recently was Senior Director of Engineering at Cloudera. Josie believes that the best culture for engineering is one that includes embracing ‘Emotional Intelligence’ (EQ), does not tolerate ‘brilliant jerks,’ and is highly collaborative. She is passionate about getting more women and girls to enter (and stay) in technology, and has partnered with organizations focused on this, including TechBridge, Technovation, and she++. Josie holds a BComm in Information Science from the University of Otago, New Zealand.
She has held a variety of different positions in technology, including developer, database administrator, development manager, and technical program manager. She led the salesforce.com Women in Technology Outreach team whose charter is to promote STEM to girls. Josie was listed as one of Hackbright Academy’s “rising women engineering leaders to watch”.
She currently lives in the SF Bay Area with her husband, son, daughter, and a fluffy Golden Retriever.
