Those with autism have gone on to graduate college, write best-selling books, become famous musicians and more. In addition, some of the world\u2019s most famous celebrities have shared that they or a loved one has been diagnosed with autism, showcasing how successful people with autism can be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the Autism Society, one in 59 American children are on the autism spectrum. Prizant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, PhD, who is one of the world\u2019s leading experts on autism, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lisa Genova<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, PhD, a bestselling author who has appeared on the <em>The Dr. Oz Show<\/em>, CNN, Fox News and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increased awareness of autism has led to more acceptance of those with autism. A great example of society embracing autism and dedicating time to autism education was set by <em>Sesame Street<\/em> in 2017, when the popular TV show for children introduced its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abc11.com\/entertainment\/autism-awareness-month-meet-new-sesame-street-characters\/5228957\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first character with autism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Julia. Measles is usually prevented by vaccinations, but with the wave of anti-vaxxers and those who are too young or otherwise unable to be vaccinated, the disease, which was previously nearly eradicated, has now come back. Through Autism Awareness Month, people can destigmatize autism and understand that unfounded fears of autism should not be a reason to leave your child unvaccinated. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Role Models With Autism <\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Autism Society created the autism awareness movement in order to promote inclusion and allow every person with autism to reach their full potential.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Famous scientist and autism advocate Temple Grandin, PhD serves as a role model for all of those with autism dreaming of a career in science. She is currently a professor at Colorado State University, has an undergraduate degree in psychology, and a masters and doctoral degree in animal science.
