{"id":15302,"date":"2017-12-27T08:22:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-27T13:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/blog\/?p=15302"},"modified":"2024-12-26T10:16:04","modified_gmt":"2024-12-26T15:16:04","slug":"prince-ea-deep-reflections-through-spoken-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/blog\/prince-ea-deep-reflections-through-spoken-word\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince Ea: Reflections Through the Art of the Spoken Word"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em>&#8220;It is our only home, we must globally warm our hearts\u00a0<\/em><em>and change the climate of our souls\u00a0<\/em><em>and realize that we are not apart from nature,\u00a0<\/em><em>we are a part of nature.&#8221;<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/speakers\/393884\/Prince-Ea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince Ea<\/a> is a rapper, spoken word artist, filmmaker, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/category\/Activists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">activist<\/a>, and speaker who delivers his moving messages through digital media.\u00a0 Born in St. Louis, Prince Ea received his degree in anthropology from the University of Missouri St. Louis, where he studied on a full scholarship. \u00a0He is known for his important, if controversial, topics and powerful speaking voice- a performer with a purpose.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Ea won <em>VIBE<\/em> <em>Magazine<\/em>\u2019s rap contest, which awarded him recording equipment and a dedicated full page article in the magazine.\u00a0 He soon gained recognition, fans, and followers on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/lists\/youtubers.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> account, but realized that he wasn\u2019t truly happy and decided to shift his focus to a selfless one.\u00a0 Respected and admired, he has been called \u201cpowerful\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/speakers\/4868\/Iyanla-Vanzant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iyanla Vanzant<\/a> and a \u201cvisionary filmmaker\u201d by <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oprah<\/a>.\u00a0 He spends his time speaking to students across the country and addressing conference attendees on motivation and living your passion, as well as creating content that speaks to society.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, he took a hard look at the history and legality of marijuana, through a spoken word message that went viral.\u00a0 In this conversation with an Obama impersonator, Prince Ea discusses the role of the government and pharmaceutical companies in the decision to keep marijuana illegal.\u00a0 He looks at the positive and negative health effects, as well as the societal impact, in this poem that he backed with research.\u00a0 He has also been seen as a spokesperson for MyHeritage DNA, a company challenging the idea of race. \u00a0Prince Ea was part of a campaign to discuss how DNA testing creates more social acceptance, as we are all a combination of backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Ea looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allamericanspeakers.com\/lists\/government-and-politics.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">politics<\/a>, technology, religious institutions, and society as a whole.\u00a0 He calls attention to societal problems in a unique way- through moving poems told in his strong, resonating voice.<\/p>\n<p>One particular piece, &#8220;Can We Auto-Correct Humanity?&#8221; examines society&#8217;s focus in this digital era. \u00a0While we all feel connected on social media, Prince Ea explains how this is not really a connection, but a division. \u00a0His poignant message starts off strong:<\/p>\n<p><em>Did you know the average person spends 4 years of his life looking down at his cell phone?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Kind of ironic, ain&#8217;t it?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>How these touch-screens can make us lose touch<\/em><br \/>\n<em>But it&#8217;s no wonder in a world filled with iMac\u2019s, iPads and iPhones<\/em><br \/>\n<em>So many &#8220;i&#8221;\u2019s, so many selfies, not enough &#8220;us&#8221;&#8216;s and &#8220;we&#8221;\u2019s<\/em><br \/>\n<em>See, technology<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Has made us more selfish and separate than ever<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dRl8EIhrQjQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>His lyrics resonate in his spoken word piece, &#8220;I Am NOT Black, You are NOT White&#8221;, which looks at the labels society puts on us, dividing one another by race. \u00a0He questions how the world would be if we did not merely look at our exterior fa\u00e7ades.<\/p>\n<p>He states:<\/p>\n<p><em>When there is division, there will be conflict<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And conflict starts wars<\/em><br \/>\n<em>There-fore every war has started over labels<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It&#8217;s always us&#8230;
