\"OlivierOlivier Scalabre<\/strong> is head of The Boston Consulting Group’s<\/a> (BCG) Operations Practice for Western Europe, North Africa, and South America. As part of his expansive career at BCG,\u00a0Scalabre\u00a0has worked both in mature and emerging markets, most notably out of the BCG New Delhi and BCG Paris offices.<\/p>\n

As a senior partner at BCG,\u00a0Scalabre\u00a0supports large operations programs for industrial goods clients in multiple sectors. He also\u00a0analyzes the evolution of large industrial companies’ manufacturing footprint and operations. In the last three years he has launched BCG Ops Centers serving regions out of Paris, London, and Sao Paolo via 100 experts dedicated to manufacturing, supply chain, procurement and service operations across industries.<\/p>\n

Scalabre is also a TED speaker. In his most recent TED Talk “The next manufacturing revolution is here,”<\/em> Scalabre\u00a0discusses a new form of manufacturing. He details how a fourth manufacturing revolution will produce a macroeconomic shift and boost employment, productivity and growth.<\/p>\n

A look at growth<\/span><\/h2>\n

He begins his talk with a look at growth, and specifically, growth caused by manufacturing.<\/p>\n

“If we look at the history of growth,<\/span> times of big growth have always been fueled<\/span> by big manufacturing revolutions,” says Scalabre.<\/span>\u00a0“It happened three times, every 50-60 years.<\/span> The steam engine in the middle of the 19th century,<\/span> the mass-production model in the beginning of the 20th century —<\/span> thanks, Mr. Ford.<\/span> And the first automation wave in the 1970s.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m here today to tell you<\/span> that we are on the verge of another huge change,<\/span> and that this change, surprisingly enough,<\/span> is going to come from manufacturing, again,” continues Scalabre.\u00a0<\/span>“It will get us out of our growth slump\u00a0<\/span>and it will change radically the way globalization has been shaped<\/span> over the last decade.<\/span> I’m here to tell you about the amazing fourth manufacturing revolution<\/span> that is currently underway.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The 4th\u00a0manufacturing revolution<\/span><\/h2>\n

Scalabre believes that this fourth manufacturing revolution will come with the merging of manufacturing and technological innovation.<\/p>\n

“Major technologies are entering the manufacturing space,<\/span> big time,” says Scalabre.<\/span>\u00a0“They will boost industrial productivity by more than a third.\u00a0<\/span>This is massive, and it will do a lot in creating growth.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Scalabre believes this new revolution will not only bring growth, but it will bring globalization and increased productivity and flexibility in manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Scalabre ends his talk on a positive note saying, “This fourth manufacturing revolution is a chance for all of us.<\/span> If we play it right,<\/span> we’ll see sustainable growth in all of our economies.<\/span> This means more wealth distributed to all of us<\/span> and a better future for our children.”<\/span><\/p>\n
