In a few weeks we’ll be hosting State of Innovation with panel discussions on the VC landscape and Healthcare + Innovation. But, before we announce the panelists, we’d like to introduce you to our keynote speaker.
As mentioned in the Beat newsletter on Friday, we are pleased to announce that Whurley will be giving the keynote speech for State of Innovation 2016. His birth certificate says William Hurley. But he is best known simply as Whurley, and he has had an exciting career thus far.
With stints at Apple, where he won an Apple Design Award, and IBM, where he was a Master Inventor, Whurley went on to co-found Chaotic Moon Studios. During his time with Chaotic Moon, the company built apps for companies like Microsoft, CBS Sports, Pizza Hut and others, and not to mention a mind-controlled skateboard.
But the innovation doesn’t just stop there. Whurley founded Honest Dollar in 2014 before its acquisition by Goldman Sachs in the middle of SXSW this year. And this wasn’t the only splash he made during the tech festival. After President Obama’s keynote, he set off to a DNC fundraiser hosted by Whurley at the Austin Music Hall. And not only did they shake hands but, as President Obama mentioned during his keynote, they talked about large-scale innovation, though we may never know all the details about that private presidential chat.
