On March 23rd, 2017, New York University is hosting “Audacious and Bold: Centering Gender Justice and Intersectionality”. This event, in honor of Women’s History Month, will be a discussion on current social justice and gender issues. All American Speakers is excited that the acclaimed Rosie Perez has been asked to speak at this event.
Celebrating Women’s Herstory
Janet Mock, Jodie Patterson, Wade A. Davis II, and Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas are joining Rosie for this occasion. A celebration of Women’s History Month, New York University is hosting this conversation on women’s issues at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York. The event is free and open to the public, on a first come, first serve basis. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and NYU student, Patience Carter, will give a special performance.
Rosie Perez is an accomplished actress, choreographer, dancer, author, and activist. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for her role in Fearless, and three Emmy Awards recognizing her choreography work for In Living Color. Perez started her career as a dancer on Soul Train and has since published an autobiography, directed a documentary, and starred in numerous roles in movies, television, and theater. In addition, she is an involved activist and serves as the Artistic Board Chair for Urban Arts Partnership. This group uses arts centered education to help close the achievement gap. Furthermore, President Obama appointed Perez to The Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS in 2010. Perez is an activist and, consequently, will discuss many relevant social justice issues at this event.
