James Sommerville co-founded ATTIK at the age of only 19 at his grandmother’s house. In the 1990s, he designed the early campaigns of MTV, AOL, Sony Playstation and Nike. ATTIK went global in 2000. In 2013, Sommerville joined Coca-Cola as VP of global design. Among his endeavors—he led design of visual identity systems for major events such as the World Cup and Olympics—and for other billion-dollar brands within the Coca-Cola portfolio. Now, Sommerville is leading Coca-Cola’s largest global marketing campaign, “Taste the Feeling,” under the One Brand strategy.

Randy Hunt was VP of Design at Etsy, where he led a team of designers, researchers, writers and artists for 7.5 years to define and create Etsy’s total brand experience. Hunt is also the author of Product Design for the Web, which explores the evolving discipline of product design for today’s connected world. In 2014, Etsy was honored with the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s National Design Award for Corporate and Institutional Achievement.

Sean Carney’s personal mission is to improve lives through meaningful, relevant design. The team’s success is recognized by the 158 top design awards it won in 25 key global design competitions in 2016. Nate Young brings more than 30 years of experience to teams–locally and internationally—facilitating a culture of intense creativity and idea sharing that has led to constant growth throughout the company since his arrival in 2013. Young received his undergraduate education in automotive and industrial design from Art Center College of Design and began working for Prince Corporation, an automotive interiors company. He was later promoted to group VP. Young co-founded TWISThink and later, NewNorth Center for Design in Business, a non-profit “unconsulting” group dedicated to revitalizing innovation within their clients’ organizations.

Mark Zeller, IDSA, is senior vice president of global brands creative at Fisher-Price—leading product and packaging design for the company’s portfolio of toys and parenting solutions. He is passionate about the role of the designer in the children’s space as it provides the opportunity to provide learning through play. It also allows the designer to express their creativity through a variety of product categories. For nearly 20 years, he has taught toy design at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Zeller earned a BFA in industrial design from Cleveland Institute of Art.

Max Burton, IDSA, founded MATTER in San Francisco in 2012. His company focuses on experience design and product innovation. Burton has worked as a product, interaction and experience designer for more than two decades with much of his recent career delivering new consumer products and services enabled by emerging technologies. Previously, Burton served as global lead for product design at frog; creative director for Tech Lab at Nike; and VP of product at Smart Design in New York City. His work has received numerous IDSA International Design Excellence Awards (IDEAs) and holds 13 patents.

Ti Chang, IDSA, is an industrial designer/entrepreneur passionate about designing products for women. She is the co-founder and VP of design of CRAVE, a San Francisco-based company specializing in discreet and luxury sex toys. Chang leads the concept and design for the company’s full line of products which has won numerous awards. She currently serves as vice chair of IDSA’s Women in Design Special Interest Section, chair of IDSA’s San Francisco Chapter and a juror for IDEA 2017.
Director of Industrial Design-Packaging at Studio One Eleven
A Chicago native with a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Syracuse University, Liam worked for several Chicago area consultancies in package and product categories before joining Studio One Eleven in 2005. Liam also brought several of his own ‘green’ housewares to market through a partnership he co-founded in 2003, Normal Design LLC. Working for several Chicago area design consultancies, he helped launch iconic products such as the TUL line of writing utensils for Office Max and Blu-Ray Disc packaging for Sony.

Department Head of Graphic & Industrial Design at North Carolina State University
Professor Tsai Lu Liu, IDSA, is head of the Department of Graphic Design and Industrial Design at North Carolina State University, where he and his students have been working on user research and product design projects for companies such as Bosch Appliances, Coca Cola, Eastman Chemical, IBM, Johnson and Johnson, Lowes, Under Armour and more. Before teaching, Liu managed new product/service design and marketing for 12 years in the toy, healthcare, gaming, semiconductor and communication industries. With a user-centered approach to innovation, his teams successfully brought several products to the international markets through comprehensive research, design, engineering, production and marketing endeavors.

Brian Roderman, FIDSA, is the president and chief innovation officer of IN2 Innovation, an experience innovation design agency. Roderman has worked in the design consultancy business for 29+ years, and is frequently a featured speaker on design and innovation at events and symposiums worldwide. He is active in IDSA, having held six terms on the Board of Directors. In 2015, Roderman was selected as one of the 50 Notable Members of the last 50 years of IDSA, and was awarded an IDSA Fellowship, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member in the Society.

Florian Vollmer is senior design manager of retail presales at NCR, where he combines service design methods with a business perspective to transform innovation processes.
