On Saturday, June 22, 2019, from 12 to 4 p.m. in Durham, North Carolina, All American Entertainment hosted “Raise the Ruff,” a family-friendly pet adoption event and pop-up party. The event, which Durty Bull Brewing Company generously hosted, benefitted local adoption groups Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue (NRGRR) and Independent Animal Rescue (IAR). NRGRR is a 501c3 organization in North Carolina that helps rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for golden retrievers and golden mixes. IAR is a non-profit located in the Triangle that helps provide shelter for unwanted or poorly treated dogs and cats.
Finding Forever Homes for Adoptable Dogs
There were several dogs available for adoption at the event. IAR brought no less than 11 Bluetick Coonhound puppies for attendees to admire, pet, and cuddle with throughout the afternoon. At least five of those puppies were adopted as a result of applications submitted at the event. Thanks to an NRGRR volunteer who went out of her way to perform an official house visit at a neighboring home, a golden retriever mix who had recently traveled to the U.S. all the way from China (!), was adopted that very day.
Additionally, a total of four people expressed interest in fostering animals for the rescues. If you can provide a loving home for a pet in need, contact IAR and NRGRR or check out the pets available for adoption on their websites.
Online Raffle To Raise Funds
The event was accompanied by a donation drive and an online raffle to raise additional funds for this year’s beneficiaries of the annual AAE CARES animal rescue initiative. The “Raise The Ruff” raffle, which ran throughout the month of July 2019, raised more than $1,000 to support the work of Independent Animal Rescue and Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue, and featured prizes including an Apple watch, a 90-minute in-home massage, and four tickets to a Durty Bull brewery tour and beer tasting.
Pop-Up Market Promoting Local Businesses
It is AAE CARES’ mission to support and bring together the local community. With that goal in mind, this outreach event featured a pop-up market with a variety of local vendors including Nose, Toes & Tails Pet Care, PetPeople, On Point Pupcakes, Canine Empowerment, and Tupperware N’ Treats.
In cooperation with local donation drive partners Southpoint Animal Hospital, Park Veterinary Hospital, and Eno Animal Hospital, the “Raise The Ruff” donation drive collected pet food, toys, medication, and supplies such as food bowls, leashes and harnesses to support IAR and NRGRR’s foster families with the daily care of adoptable pets.
Live Music & Toy Creation Station
The event included live music by local folk duo Allegedly Cousins and had a special toy creation station where children could make their own dog toys. Attendees could choose between two types of tug & toss dog toys and decide whether they wanted to take the toy home, or donate it to the rescue groups.
Local food truck Pork in the Road was present to sell their delicious pork-inspired menu to the many dog lovers at the event, as was Citizen Pops, a local fruit popsicle company.
We’d like to extend a BIG thank you to all of our partners for their efforts to raise awareness for a great cause, and for helping us make this pet adoption event such a success. To all who came out and entered the raffle, thank you for your support!
