Biography of Stephen Collins

He and his two older brothers and one older sister were raised in  Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.  Stephen was very active and successful in high school.  He was in the school's honor  society and played on the varsity baseball team.  He was in the history club and of course the drama club.  He was also very popular despite the fact that he didn't hang out with the popular crowd.  He was  elected by fellow students to student government and was voted "Best-looking Boy" by his classmates in the yearbook. 
        Even though Stephen was very popular with his peers, he was extreamely shy and afraid to express his ambition for acting.  But he soon overcame his shyness through his participation in a "Rock n' Roll" band.  He learned to play the bass guitar and he and some other boys formed a band.  Stephen participated in a few rock bands during his high school years with names such as, The Housemen, The Mustangs, and The Trolls.  During his high school years Stephen overcame stage fright by performing in Hasting High School's production of Our Town.  Stephen graduated from high school in 1965 and enrolled in Amherst College. 
        While in college Stephen performed in many theatre productions on and off broadway, starting with his debut in T.S. Elliot's MURDER IN THE CATHEDRAL at Amherst.  He also participated in a few rock bands while he was in college.  The names of some of these bands were...

Stephen graduated Amherst College with honors in 1969.
     In 1970 Stephen married a woman name Marjorie Weinman.  They were married for 8 years but things just didn't work out and they were divorced in 1978.
        No one believed Stephen would continue to pursue his dream of acting because he was raised in a family of businessmen, Lawyers, and bankers.  Stephen had every reason to believe he would be a Lawyer or Banker just like the rest of his family but as long as he continued to be cast in theatre productions he continued to pursue performing as a career.
        After college he continued to perform in theatre but he also began to perform on film.  He was in films such as STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE, THE PROMISE, STELLA, and the more recent DRIVE ME CRAZY. He guest starred in a 90's TV series called SISTERS He also starred in the well loved but short lived TV series TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY. Today he plays the caring minister, loving husband and father of 7, Eric Camden, on the WB's top rated TV series, 7th HEAVEN.   The series is so popular that it is now in it's 8th season and is still going strong.  Somehow between theatre productions, movies and TV series he has even found time to write a couple of novels.   During the 90's he wrote two sexual-thriller novels entitled EYE CONTACT and  DOUBLE EXPOSURE.  He continues to write a third novel but won't be having it published any time soon.  And to top it all off he tried his hand at directing during Season 2 he directed the episode NOTHING ENDURES BUT CHANGE.  In season 3 he directed the episode called PARANOIA. And again in the current season he directed the episode entitled WE REALLY DID.  Funny coincidence how the episodes Stephen directed turned out to be the highest rated of the 7th Heaven episodes.  Or was it coincidence?  
      Stephen now lives in Los Angeles California with his wife, Faye Grant, whom he met on the set of Tales of the Gold Monkey in 1982 and married on April 21, 1985 . They have been married to for 18 years, They have a daugher named Kate who is 14 years old.  Stephen still enjoys baseball (NY Mets is his favorite baseball team), Music and acting.  He receintly recorded a CD of some of his favorite oldies and is selling it online.  Stephen has been very lucky to overcome his shyness only to make most of his dreams come true. 
     But mostly, We are the lucky ones that Stephen overcame his extreme shyness and went on to pursue his ambition to become an actor.
