Detailed Biography of Rita Rudner
|
|
Rita Rudner's appearances in the late eighties on The Tonight Show, Late Night with Letterman and Comic Relief established her as one of the country's premier stand up comedians. Winner of the 1990 American Comedy Award for Funniest Stand Up Comedienne, she started in her first award winning HBO special Born To Be Mild later that same year.
In 1992, Rudner made her film debut in Peter's Friends alongside Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh. Rudner co-wrote the film with her husband, Martin Bergman. Peter's Friends won the UK's Peter Sellers' Award for Comedy Film of the Year. Her first book Naked Beneath My Clothes was published by Viking-Penguin in 1993 and quickly became a bestseller. The audio version of the book received a Grammy nomination.
The 18 months have included a mad for cable romantic comedy called A Weekend In The Country, starring Rudner, Jack Lemmon, Christine Lahti and Richard Lewis, a second HBO special called Rita Rudner Married Without Children, a sold out tour of Australia, and several engagements in Las Vegas.
She has sold over one million tickets in Las Vegas since 2000; she currently headlines at Harrahs and will do so until 2010. She has written four books; two non-fiction and two novels.
