Oliver Ryan is a Writer-Reporter. He joined FORTUNE in 2004, and has since written stories for all sections of the magazine, with a focus on media and technology.

Prior to joining FORTUNE, Ryan worked from 1997 to 2002 for Knight Ridder Digital in San Jose , CA , most recently as Director of Business and Technology programming for the Real Cities network. He was also General Manager of SiliconValley.com. Prior to joining Knight Ridder, he spent three years at Wave Systems Corp., a technology start-up focused on secure e-commerce. He was a founding board member of Bay Area Performing Arts.

Ryan has an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University , an M.B.A. from Harvard University , and a B.A. in physics from Wesleyan. He lives in Manhattan .
