Biography of Noel Tichy

The great champion of leadership as teachable, Dr. Noel M. Tichy has dedicated his illustrious career to helping companies transform their performance by embedding leadership teaching and learning at all levels of the organization. Noel is Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at the University of Michigan Business School.

 Dr. Tichy is the author of numerous books and articles, including The Ethical Challenge, The Cycle of Leadership, and The Leadership Engine, a bestseller that was named one of the top ten business books in 1997 by BusinessWeek. In his most recent book, The Ethical Challenge, Tichy brings together essays by prominent authors presenting a 'Teachable Point of View' about business ethics that will help all leaders within an organization. The Cycle of Leadership and The Leadership Engine demonstrate how to create knowledge exchange and virtuous teaching cycles to improve leadership performance. Drawing from the examples of winning companies, Tichy provides thoughtful, solid and, most importantly, actionable answers on how to develop the leaders that will be critical to success in the 21st century.

Tichy directs the Global Business Partnership, an international consortium for research and executive development. For over a decade, the partnership ran the Global Leadership Program, a 36-company consortium of Japanese, European and North American companies who partnered to develop senior executives and conduct action research on globalization in China, India, Russia and Brazil. He now heads up the Global Leadership in Healthcare Program, working with CEOs and their senior teams from major medical centers in the U.S. along with teams in Europe and India.

Professor Tichy consults widely in the private and public sectors and is a senior partner in Action Learning Associates. He conducts the “Building The Leadership Engine” executive program at the University of Michigan. Most recently, he led the launch of the Global Corporate Citizenship initiative in partnership with General Electric and Procter & Gamble, designed to create a national model for partnership between business and society.

Tichy is the former head of GE’s fabled Crotonville Leadership Center, where he leads the transformation to action learning. In partnership with Eli Cohen, he has entered into an alliance with Coopers & Lybrand Consulting Center of Excellence in Change Management to establish a new transformational leadership service called Leaders Developing Leaders.
