Nathan Lane Biography
Nathan Lane is a versatile performer in entertainment, recognized for his work on Broadway, in film, and on television. Lane has received multiple honors, including three Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award, three Emmy Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. He has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
Lane began his professional theater career in an off-Broadway production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" before appearing in the Broadway revival of "Present Laughter." His Broadway credits include roles such as Pseudolus in Stephen Sondheim's "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," Max Bialystock in Mel Brooks' "The Producers," and Roy Cohn in Tony Kushner's "Angels in America." Lane earned Tony Awards for each of these performances and won the Olivier Award for his work in "The Producers" in London. His portrayal of Max Bialystock in "The Producers," alongside Matthew Broderick, broke sales records and received critical acclaim. In 2026, he received another Tony nomination for his performance in "Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman."
In film, Lane is known for voicing Timon in "The Lion King" and for his role as Albert in Mike Nichols' "The Birdcage," which earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe nomination. Lane has continued to take on diverse film roles, including a co-starring role in the A24 film "Dicks: The Musical," directed by Larry Charles. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Midnight Madness People's Choice Award.
Lane's television work includes portraying Pepper Saltzman in the ABC sitcom "Modern Family," earning three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
