Biography of Matt Fox

Matt Fox and Shari Hiller

You probably know them best as hosts of room by room, one of HGTV's most popular home decorating shows and TV's first ever room makeover show, but they're definitely not just hosts! They created the concept for the show and serve as the writers and designers. They also keep busy writing a decorating column that's carried in hundreds of newspapers nationwide. But their first love is meeting their fans. In recent years they have emerged as two of the most sought after speakers in the country on the subject of home decorating. In a normal year, they'll travel to dozens of home and garden shows, store openings and events across the country to inspire thousands of fans with the live stage version of their show.

Matt pursued a career in theater in the San Francisco area while teaching high school drama and painting houses during the summers. By the late 80's, their careers lead them to Dutch Boy Paints where Matt sold paint on the West Coast and Shari developed color systems.

It wasn't until 1991 that the two finally met! They put their heads together to fine tune what is now known across the country as room by room. Originally a one-hour live, locally broadcast decorating show, it took three years of hard work, creativity and perseverance on the parts of both Matt and Shari, to bring the show to where it is today, on the fastest growing network on television, HGTV.
