Biography of Lea Soupata

A member of the UPS management committee since 1995 and the board of directors since 1998, Ms. Soupata oversaw the company's strategy in training, developing, and retaining a diverse and highly skilled workforce.

During her tenure as head of human resources, Soupata expanded the company's selective sourcing strategy to include more than eight different HRO providers, including areas such as healthcare, recruiting, hiring, 401(k), stock, and relocation. These initiatives enhanced HR services, improved efficiencies, and increased cost savings. Soupata also expanded the company's employee portal- upsers.com - to include greater HR functionality, including access to its HR partners. She directed the standardization of the global GEMS system, as well as expanding UPS's global corporate schools into Germany and the Philippines.

Ms. Soupata joined UPS in 1969 and during her tenure was committed to maintaining UPS's reputation as an employer of choice. She managed a variety of human resources and customer service and operations functions. She also served as district manager in the New York area from 1990 to 1994. Ms. Soupata served as chair of the UPS Foundation, the company's charitable arm, and was a board member of Junior Achievement of Georgia and the Morehouse School of Medicine. She is currently a trustee of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic foundation dedicated to helping disadvantaged children, and is a fellow of the National HR Academy. She also serves as a board member of St. Basil's Academy, a children's home.
