Joan Borysenko
Dr. Joan Borysenko is a medical scientist and licensed psychologist.
She received her doctorate from Harvard Medical School, where she also completed three post-doctoral fellowships in experimental pathology. She is the co-founder and former director of the Mind/Body Clinic at Beth Israel/Deaconess Hospital in Boston, and a former instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. A pioneer in integrative medicine, her work encompasses mind/body medicine, women's health, and spirituality.
Dr. Borysenko has a clear personal vision—to bring science, psychology, and spirituality together in the service of healing. Since 1988, she has been president of Mind/Body Health Sciences, providing lectures, workshops, and consultations for personal growth centers, professional societies, hospitals, schools, religious organizations, and businesses worldwide.
A powerful and articulate writer and speaker, she has authored five books on health and healing, three books on spirituality, and four audio cassette programs. Her book Minding the Body, Mending the Mind was a New York Times bestseller, and she has written over twenty academic publications. She has been described as a rare jewel: respected scientist, gifted therapist and unabashed mystic.
A widely sought-after expert for the media, she has appeared on such television programs as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, and Sonya Live. Her work has been featured in publications that include U.S. News and World Report, Vogue, and the Wall Street Journal. Truly an individual for our times, her brilliance, sense of humor, and compassion thrill the thousands who hear her speak, read her books, or peruse a media interview she has granted.
