Detailed Biography of Jim Sundberg
|
|
He played with the Texas Rangers from 1974-1983 and again from 1988-89, doing short stints with the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, and Chicago Cubs along the way. He was a three-time American League All-Star and a six-time American League Gold Glove catcher, the most by any American League catcher until 1998. He played in the 1985 World Series with champion team Kansas City Royals and was voted "World Series Hero" by Chicago writers.
After retiring, Sundberg was the color analyst for Texas Rangers Baseball for six seasons (1990-1995). He was presented with the "Jim Sundberg Community Service Award" by the Texas Rangers in 1989, an award which is now given annually to extraordinary community volunteers.
He was voted "Arlington Man of the Year" in 1994 by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington, TX in recognition of his outstanding community service. Sundberg is the owner of Sports Training Systems, an athletics training products company dedicated to "the family sports experience", and is also the author of How to Win at Sports Parenting.
Sundberg has lived with his wife, Janet, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for over 25 years. They have three children.
