He is developing a body of knowledge where the mastery of obsolescence and renewal is central to 21st Century management.
He heads up an ongoing study of the competitive evolution of hundreds of products and services in 45 industries. The insights from these patterns of success and failure are the focus of his book, Renewable Advantage: Crafting Strategy through Economic Time, published by the Free Press in 1998. Today, much of his attention is focused on the emergence and development of e-commerce and the Internet economy.
