Detailed Biography of Greg Behrman


The Story of the Marshall Plan and the Time When America Helped Save Europe (To be published by Free Press; June, 2007). Behrman is also the author of THE INVISIBLE PEOPLE: How the U.S. Has Slept Through the Global AIDS Pandemic, The Greatest Humanitarian Catastrophe of Our Time (Free Press; June, 2004). The New York Times called it, "Well researched and unsparing... [An] important volume;" The Baltimore Sun found it "An Eloquent History... Marvelous;" The Washington Post suggested it was "Ahead of its time;" and The Seattle Times lauded it "An invaluable lesson," "crafted with... artful prose."

Behrman was also formerly the Coordinator for the Council on Foreign Relations Roundtable on Improving U.S. Global AIDS Policy. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Heartbeat, a non-profit organization in South Africa that cares for AIDS orphans; all of the author's proceeds from his first book have been donated to Heartbeat.

He has moderated roundtable events with leading national and international foreign policy makers and experts, and has been the featured speaker at The Council on Foreign Relations, The Foreign Policy Association, The World Affairs Council, The Asia Society, The Commonwealth Club, Brainstorm and at Harvard, Yale and Princeton. His writing has been published in Newsweek International, International Herald Tribune and Los Angeles Times. He has appeared on NBC, CNN, PBS, Fox, CNBC, C-SPAN and frequently on NPR.

Behrman graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Politics and a certificate in Economics from Princeton University. He graduated with an M.Phil in International Relations from Oxford University and received Distinction on his thesis. Following Princeton, Behrman worked in the Principal Investment Area at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York City for several years. He is a member of The Brookings Council and The Explorers Club.

Behrman has held a world record in fly-fishing and has completed the New York City Marathon (2000). An avid mountaineer, he has summitted Mt. Kilamanjaro and Mt. Elbrus, in Africa and Russia, respectively and many other 14,000ft+ peaks. He lives in New York City.
