Detailed Biography of Gabriel Hawawini
|
His previous appointments include: deanship of the school's Development Campaign (1998-2000), deanship of the Doctoral Program (1998-1999), directorship of the Euro-Asia Centre (1988-1994), the Yamaichi Professorship in Finance (1989-1994), and coordination of the Finance Area (1985-1987 and 1996-1999).
Trained in France as a Chemical Engineer (University of Toulouse), he received his doctorate in economics and finance from New York University (1977). Before joining INSEAD he taught at New York University, the City University of New York and Columbia University (1974-1982).
In 1982 he received the "Presidential Award for Distinguished Faculty Scholarship" at the City University of New York. During the 1987-1988 academic year he was Visiting Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he received the "Helen Kardon Moss Anvil Award for Excellence in Teaching". He is the recipient of "The Fulbright Award for Global Business Education" (2004) and was awarded Honorary Doctorates from the University of Liège in Belgium and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in California as well as the French Legion of Honour (2005). In 2006 he was presented with "The Chief Executive Leadership Award" from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
Gabriel Hawawini was a Vice President of the French Finance Association (1984-1986), a member of the editorial board of several academic journals, and the author of twelve books and over seventy research papers. His publications are in the areas of value-based management, risk estimation and asset valuation, portfolio management, and the structure of the financial-services industry. His books include Mergers and Acquisitions in the US Banking Industry (North Holland: 1991) and the third edition of Finance for Executives: Managing for Value Creation (South Western Publishing: 2006).
He is currently on the board of several public companies and consults with a number of companies on the implementation of value-based management systems. He has organized, directed and participated in management development programmes around the world since 1982.
