At age 19, she began writing and producing television specials and has gone on to distinguish herself as an actress and writer in television, film, and theater. Both her first and second novels, Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, captured positions on the New York Times Best-Seller List. The latter was made into the feature film, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the script won Flagg an Academy Award and a Writers Guild of America Award nomination. Her fourth novel, Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!, spent 12 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller List.

As an actress she has delighted audiences across the country in film and on network television shows such as Candid Camera, The New Dick Van Dyke Show, and many others. Her leading Broadway roles include Sissy in “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean,” directed by Elia Kazan and “Miss Mona” in the Tony Award winning musical, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.”
He first novel, Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man, brought high critical praise from The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Publishers Weekly. Her second novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café, received widespread acclaim as well, including a Pulitzer Prize nomination and spent 36 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list. Universal Studios produced Fried Green Tomatoes as a feature film and Fannie penned the script. It placed #1 at the box office, won rave reviews, and Fannie was nominated for every industry award including an Academy Award and the prestigious Scripter Award. Her last two novels, Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! and Standing in the Rainbow immediately landed on The New York Times and The London Times Best Seller lists and garnered starred reviews from both Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Review.
