Biography of Dr. Ingrid Bacci

Ingrid Bacci, Ph.D., is an alternative health care practitioner, author and motivational consultant to corporations, educational institutions, hospitals and churches. A licensed teacher of the Alexander Technique and a Craniosacral Therapist, Bacci has published articles in scientific, management and spiritual journals, has produced television shows on mind-body training and has demonstrated the techniques of effortless living on major networks.

Her first book, "The Art of Effortless Living" (September 2000) has been well received, including selection by One Spirit Book Club for distribution in 2001 and praise from "Publishers Weekly," the premier review journal in the country. It has also been highly acclaimed by celebrity authors, such as Jean Houston, Larry Dossey, Elaine Pagels and Peter D'Adamo.

The author's training and expertise in mind-body healing grew out of her own experience with a serious medical condition. Twenty years ago, at thirty-one years of age, her professional academic career was abruptly shattered by a mysterious and crippling collagen disease that defied cure by highly respected traditional medical doctors.

For three years, Bacci was a bedridden invalid in constant pain. It was during this time that she turned her own mind and body into a laboratory for self-study. She explored and subsequently trained in alternative therapies based on the mind-body connection, and studied spiritual traditions that focus on accessing the higher powers of the mind.

Ten years later all signs of illness were gone, and Bacci has transformed herself from a cripple to a tri-athlete. In addition, she had committed herself to a lifelong professional goal of assisting others in achieving optimum health and creativity.

Dr. Bacci graduated from Harvard University, attended Cambridge University, England, on a fellowship and received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Columbia University. She has held positions as Assistant Professor of Philosophy at SUNY New Paltz, as Director of Communications at Audrey Cohen College in New York City and as Director of Public Affairs for Cooper Union. After receiving licensing in alternative health care she opened a private practice in 1991, in Westchester County. She combines her private practice with teaching seminars and retreats and consulting for corporations, hospitals and non-profits.

In addition to her book, Dr. Bacci has written numerous articles in "Family Circle," "Working Mother," "New Age," "Child" and "Natural Health" magazines. Earlier publications include articles in "Women's News," "Somatics," "Journal of Behavioral Optometry," "Construction News," "AMA's Executive Management Forum," "Utne Reader," "New York State Journal for Counseling and Development" and "East West" magazine.
