




David Kessler is a journalist, motivational speaker and the author of LIFE LESSONS: two experts on death and dying teach us about the mysteries of life and living, co-authored with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and published by Simon & Schuster.
The book features lessons on living, including advice on dealing with loss from Christopher Landon (screen writer and Michael Landon's son) and from Berry Berenson Perkins,(photographer and wife of Anthony Perkins)
His first book is THE NEEDS OF THE DYING: a guide for bringing hope, comfort and love to life's final chapter published in 2000 by HarperCollins Publishers. The book was praised by Mother Teresa and Marianne Williamson. It was originally published in hardcover and audio in 1997 under the title THE RIGHTS OF THE DYING and was a finalist for "Best Book of 1997 by a New Author". It has been published in the UK, China, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Taiwan, Spain and Latin America.
David has helped hundreds of men, women and children face death with peace, dignity and courage. His experiences with end of life care and death have taken him from Auschwitz concentration camp to Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying Destitute in Calcutta, India. His services have been used by Elizabeth Taylor, Carrie Fisher and Marianne Williamson when their loved ones faced death. He also worked with Anthony Perkins, Michael Landon and billionaire Armand Hammer when they faced their own deaths.
He has taught therapists at Phillips Graduate Institute in Los Angeles and leads a support group for people with cancer called The Bogeyman in the Closet. He also lectures nationally and internationally as well as leads many community forums, such as discussions on the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit, in New York and Los Angeles, after the show with the cast.He is also an EPEC instructor (Education for Physicians on End of Life Care)
David's volunteerism includes serving as a Specialist Reserve Police Officer and also serving as a member of on the Red Cross Aviation Disaster Team.
Kessler, one of the founders of Project Angel Food, is well-known for his work with the very successful, non-profit, charitable organization which delivers hot meals every day, free of charge, to over 1200 men, women and children with life challenging illnesses. He has served on a National Education and Health Care Advisory Committee.
David is the director of Palliative care for Citrus Valley Health Partners and Hospice. Citrus Valley Health Partners has three hospitals, a home hospice program and an in patient hospice in the Los Angeles area. The in-patient hospice is one of only thirty-eight freestanding hospices in the country and one of the few that was actually built to be an in-patient hospice center. The health care system has over 900 physicians and 2000 nurses.
His work has been discussed in the "Los Angeles Times", the "New York Times", "Business Week" and "Life Magazine", and has been featured on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, PBS, "Entertainment Tonight" and "Sally Jessy Raphael".
He has written articles for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Boston Globe.
His newest book is On Grief and Grieving, co-authored with the legendary Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and completed one month before her death. David's co-authoring On Grief and Grieving, with Elisabeth Kübler-Ross is her final legacy, one that brings her life's work profoundly full circle.
