Detailed Biography of Christine Lagarde
|
Born in Paris of academic parents on 1st January 1956, Christine Lagarde attended secondary school in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) and also in the United States (Holton Arms School, Betseda). She graduated from the Institute of Political Studies (IEP), she has Master's degrees in English literature and in law. She also has a post-graduate diploma (DESS) in labour law.
Christine Lagarde lectured at Paris-X Law School before joining Baker & McKenzie Paris in 1981.
Lawyer with the Paris Bar specialising in anti-trust and labour law, Christine Lagarde was a partner with Baker & McKenzie Paris since 1987 and served as Managing Partner of the Paris office from 1991 to 1995, when she was elected to the Global Executive Committee (1995 – 1999). Christine Lagarde chaired Baker & McKenzie's Global Executive Committee from October 1999 to October 2004. She was Chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s Global Policy Committee from October 2004 to June 2005, when she was appointed as Minister for Trade.
The mother of two children, Christine Lagarde has been awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
