Biography of Carolyn Shelton

You could say Carolyn Shelton's life is a kind of gumbo, filled with a variety of ingredients that together have nourished many people in more ways than one. Ms. Shelton was born in Louisiana and raised in Texas. She learned most of her culinary skills from her mother, Angelina Zeno and grandmothers, all of whom were Afro Creoles. For many years, she traveled as a flight attendant. This provided her with great opportunities to enjoy cuisine from all over the world. This former flight attendant left the airlines to pursue her career as an Entrepreneur, Restaurateur/Chef Consultant and Cookbook author.

Since then, she has also taught many young people how to cook. Though the Prostart Culinary Program, Ms. Shelton has motivated these at-risk youth to set goals that will improve their lives. In addition, she gives them etiquette lessons which empower them with the fundamentals tools for getting along with other people, particularly in the work world.

Ms. Shelton has teamed up with corporations such as Boos Cutting Board, Hamilton Beach, Emile Henry, Kitchen Aid, Le Creuset, Lodge Logic, Louisiana Fish Fry,Louisiana Seafood Board, Reco, Snake River Farms, Staub, Starbucks Coffee,Swissmar, Tabasco, Wilton Armentale and WMF Pressure Cooker to name but a few.These partners have participated in many of her cooking shows, videos and CDs.She has authored several books including Coffee, Tea or Watermelon: Life as a Flight Attendant, Young, Gifted & Classy: Poise "N" the Hood - Guide to Manners and Motivation for youth, From Chitlins to Caviar - Professional Guide to Etiquette for the African American professionals. And she has also hosted cooking shows, The Zydeco Café on the radio. Ms. Shelton has appeared as a guest on television programs such as Donahue, 60 Minutes, Essence Television and more.

Her latest project includes, Angelina's Zydeco Okra Cookbook. More than a cookbook, it offers cooking tips that will assist you in preparing wonderful Creole Cajun Foods.
