Carol Leifer is an acclaimed comic, comedy writer and producer who began her career as a standup comedian performing in New York's well-known comedy clubs. Three years as a writer on "Seinfeld", eventually serving as producer, earned her both Writers Guild and Emmy Award nominations. Her most notable episodes of Seinfeld" include "The Rye", "The Beard" and "The Lip Reader". She is the basis for the "Seinfeld" (1990) character of Elaine Marie Benes.

Among Leifer's many production and writing credits are "Seinfeld", "The Larry Sanders Show", "The Ellen Show", "Saturday Night Live" and her own WB comedy "Alright Already". She wrote special material for the 2005, 2004 and 2001 Annual Academy Awards Shows.

A native of Long Island, NY, Leifer began her career in the late 1970's as a stand-up comedian, performing in Manhattan comedy clubs such ad The Comic Strip, Catch a Rising Star, and The Improv. Her big break came when David Letterman unexpectedly saw her perform, which led to 25 appearances on "Late Night With David Letterman". In addition, Letterman also produced her 1988 Cinemax special, "Carol Doesn't Leifer Anymore".

Carol also wrote, produced and starred i n three Showtime specials: "Carol Leifer Comedy Cruise", "Really Big Shoo" and the Cable Ace Award-nominated "Gaudy, Bawdy and Blue". In addition, she apppeared in HBO's "Young Comedian Special" and "The Rodney Dangerfield Special".

Carol is a fixture on the stand-up circuit and has been a frequent guest on numerous television shows including: "Politically Incorrect", "Late Night with Conan O'Brien", "The Late, Late Show with Tom Snyder" and "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist". She also hosted four seasons of A&E "Caroline's Comedy Hour" as well as guest hosted for the cable series "Talk Soup" and the late night talk show, "Later".

Carol Leifer currently resides in Los Angeles.
