Biography of Carol Adelman

 During her 30 years of professional experience as a public servant and consultant to private businesses and non-profit organizations, Ms. Adelman specialized in international public policy and overseas business marketing and development.

She has served as director, consultant, and member in numerous non-profit organizations, including the Center for International Private Enterprise of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Atlantic Council, Council on Foreign Relations, American Red Cross, and Capital Partners for Education.

Her experience with the federal government includes working with the Office of Economic Opportunity and the Agency for International Development, where she served as a Presidential appointee heading U.S. foreign aid programs to Asia, the Middle East, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Ms. Adelman has written extensively on global development issues including foreign aid, HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria; was a member of the U.S. delegation to the World Health Assembly in 2004.

She appears on radio and television and is a frequent speaker at international development conferences and seminars. She also has written numerous technical papers in the fields of health and nutrition.

Ms. Adelman has been the author and editor of numerous works on international health care, economic development, and trade issues. She has written The New International Regulatory Order: New Rules in a Changing World Order (1988). Her articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, the Lancet, American Outlook, Policy Review and Christian Science Monitor.

Ms. Adelman holds master’s and doctorate degrees in public health from Johns Hopkins University; a master’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, including a year’s study at the University of Bonn, Germany.
