Biography of Bud Gardner

Some people know Bud Gardner as an athletic coach.  His teams at American River College in Sacramento, CA, won eight championships in four sports in ten years.  For that, in 1963, he was inducted into the Sacramento Hall of Fame.

Some folks remember Bud as the first Assistant Dean of Students at Cosumnes River College when it opened in 1970.

Some people know Bud as a professional writer, teacher and writing coach.  He wrote and sold 60 articles before taking over the writing for publication program at American River College in 1977.  To date, his students and clients have sold more than 10,000 articles and stories and 200 books, earning themselves more than $10,000,000 from their writing, reaching an estimated 600-million readers worldwide.  For that he was named the most inspirational writing coach in America by the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA).

No wonder a California Governor, the California Senate, the California Joint Legislature, and the Superintendent of Public Instruction all wrote resolutions, praising Bud for his outstanding teaching accomplishments.

Bud served as co-captain/coordinator of the Maui Writer’s Retreat Non-fiction School (for 3 years) and conducted seminars at the annual Maui Writer’s Conference (for 5 additional years), held each Labor Day weekend.  Bud is featured -- along with Dave Barry, Mitch Albom, Jack Canfield, Terry McMillan, Carrie Fisher, Ridley Pearson, and Bryce Courtenay -- on the 1998-99 Maui Conference promo video.

Most people know Bud as the co-author of the New York Times bestseller Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul, a great book with an important mission:  to turn readers onto the value of writing. Many well-known authors such as Art Linkletter, Steve Allen, Ray Bradbury, Gary Marshall, Clive Cussler, and Sue Grafton are featured in Writer’s Soul.

Few people know Bud is also a publisher.  He and his wife Jennifer Martin founded the Prairie Angel Press and published Jen’s first novel -- The Huna Warrior: The Magic Begins -- which came  out on June 22, 2006, at a book signing at Barnes & Noble in the Galleria in Roseville, CA.

the National Speaker’s Association (NSA), a worldwide professional speaker’s organization, Bud has shared his writing expertise with clients at Century 21, the California Society of Association Executives, Sacramento Sales and Marketing Executives, California State Supervisors, and the California Business Educators Association among other organizations.
